Hannah Mazkour

Hometown: Yorktown, VA

Running Experience and Accomplishments: Hannah swam year-round and had no interest in running until about five years ago. Hannah was not all that fond of running as a child, but grew to love it as a young adult! Running allows her to keep a healthy body as well as a healthy mind. Hannah thinks running is a great way to give her brain a break from grad school!

Favorite....Race: Monument 10K in Richmond, VA. "The race is a lot of fun and it is also very well organized. It feels like a community run composed of friends as opposed to running with complete strangers!"

Amy Perkins

Hometown: Oakton, VA

Running Experience and Accomplishments: I started running at the age of forty in an attempt to get back in shape after spending my thirties having babies and raising toddlers. In 2007, a friend urged me to run a local 5k and I was hooked from that day on. I have since run several marathons, including Boston, and numerous races of shorter distances. The thing I love most about a race (besides the finish line!) is the feeling of camaraderie amongst the runners, even if they're all total strangers to you. Fellow runners are always so encouraging and supportive of each other. I coach Girls on the Run and the KLF Striders kids' running programs. I never played sports or was athletic in my youth, so I feel if I can become a runner, anyone can!

Favorite....Race:  Freeze Your Gizzard 5K - my first race. I have a love/hate relationship with this race. It's local and fun, but has a hilly, challenging cross country course that will kick your butt!

Cole Peterson.

Hometown: Leesburg, VA

Running Experience and Accomplishments: Cole started running when he began playing hockey 12 years ago. He currently runs for the Loudoun County High School XC Team. If you don't see Cole out running, you can find him at the rink playing ice hockey. Cole's current goal is to run a half marathon.

Fred Puhan

Hometown: Reston, VA

Running Experience and Accomplishments:  Fred didn't start running until he was in his forties. He ran his first marathon at 54. He has since run eight marathons, twelve half marathons and over 20 ten milers. He is a member of the Marine Corps Marathon Runners Club and is an Army Ten Miler qualified early registrant. Fred hopes to be an example to older runners that the sport is not "just for kids." He jokes that he likes being an older runner because "there are fewer competitors to beat in order to place."

Favorite....Race: The Guardsmen P10 - a ten mile race across the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco and back. "You have to battle the strong wind going one way, but it's a real friend going the other way. And it's sightseeing like you never imagined!"

Shannon Scalan

Running Experience and Accomplishments: Shannon began running in her late 20’s so she could complete the Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure in honor of a close family friend. In 2008, during a Ladies Night at the Reston Store, Shannon signed up for 201 and kicked her running up to the next level. Since then Shannon has completed every race distance from the 5k to the marathon with the half marathon being her favorite distance.

Susanne Wiegand

Hometown: Lovettsville, VA

Running Experience and Accomplishments: Susanne didn't start running until about 5 years ago when she decided to quit smoking and start living a healthier lifestyle for herself and her kids. She thought running would be the perfect activity to prevent her from falling back into bad habits and she was right. She absolutely hated running until she realized that she loved it. Once she ran in her first race and soaked in the atmosphere, the like-minded people and the awesome feeling of accomplishment that came from crossing the finish line, she was completely hooked. It has helped transform her life in so many different ways and is something that she is always happy to share with anyone that will listen or that wants to run along side her!

Favorite....Race: The Army Ten Miler..."Awesome race, awesome people, awesome atmosphere. I love everything about it!"
