4/23: The Power of Apparel... Happy Earth Day!

Yesterday was the 40th anniversary of 'EARTH DAY' and with it are events going on throughout the week, finishing with the 'Climate Change Rally' on the Mall in DC this Sunday 11am - 7pm.  At =PR=, we try to make every day an earth day. We recycle our packaging, collect your used shoes, and our vendors are also working on improving their products/packaging to do their part.  For example, Brooks use a biodegradable mid sole in their shoes; Saucony's shoes come in their own recyclable carry box, no need for a plastic bag.  We even carry 'Klean Kanteen' a steel water bottle so you can carry water and eliminate the use of plastic bottles.

These are just a few of the green things we do, and we are always looking for ways to do more. Many of our clothing suppliers are 'greening' their fabrics and dyes by using recycled polyesters and enviro friendly dyes.  There is one, in particular, I want to draw your attention to - 'ATAYNE'.  While living here in the Arlington/DC area, Atayne founder Jeremy Litchfield wanted to make a performance athletic shirt that not only did everything a sportswear shirt should do (moisture wicking, odor eliminating, temperature regulating, etc.), but also wanted it to be completely 'green'. Atayne shirts are made in North America, so their 'carbon footprint' is low, they have not traveled across thousands of miles. They are 100% recycled polyester and all fabric dyes used are kind to the enviroment. There is the reason they are not the vivid colors we are used to seeing.  But where they pale in color, they are bright in their statement. Atayne shirts have fun athletic and green graphics. 'Performance with a point of view' is how Jeremy likes to describe it.

Tomorrow, April 24th marks the beinning of EARTH WEEK AT =PR=.  From April 24-May, with every purchase of an ATAYNE t-shirt, =PR= will donate $5 towards The Nature Conservancy. The Nature Conservancy is the leading conservation organization working around the world to protect ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people. They have made a tremendous impact to the conservation advancement around the world since it was founded in 1951.

All our stores carry Atayne shirts in both Mens & Womens.  Pick one up for your next run/bike/workout and do something good for the earth while doing something good for yourself!
