New and noteworthy this week is the global launch of Nike’s Air Zoom Odyssey. We’re excited about this myth-busting stability shoe for a number of reasons. In the Air Zoom Odyssey, Nike proves it’s possible to deliver a highly stable and supportive ride even when paired with lightweight materials to deliver maximal cushioning with surprising responsiveness.
It’s just not a combination we’ve seen often, and it makes the Odyssey a seriously fast contender for those who want the perks of a fast-feel shoe without sacrificing cushioning and support.
We had the chance to dig deeper into the Odyssey with Nike’s Ashley Campbell. In our Q&A, Ashely explains how the Odyssey was conceived and designed to be faster:
Our =PR= customers who are looking for stability in a lightweight package have found great performance in the latest version of the Nike Structure 18. With the Odyssey being new to NIKE’s lineup, how does it compare to the Structure 18?
The Odyssey will be able to provide even more stability and cushion than the Structure 18. The Odyssey will feature dynamic support that will keep the foot in a neutral position from heel to toe, as well as Zoom air cushioning in both the heel and forefoot. For runners who need Maximal support, this is the shoe for them.
What innovative technology has gone into the development of the Odyssey?
Air Zoom Odyssey features a seamless engineered mesh for a customized fit and feel, with flywire across the mid foot for increased stabilization of the foot. It also features triple density dynamic support throughout the midsole for a smooth transition from comfort to support. On the most medial part of the shoe, the third density piece will run from heel to toe to keep the foot neutral throughout the entire transition. The Odyssey also features Zoom Air cushioning in the forefoot and heel, which provides a responsive feel along with the ultimate cushioning experience.
What was the inspiration for this shoe?
The inspiration of the shoe was from runners who wanted maximal cushioning and support in a shoe while still maintaining a responsive feel.
Why the name Odyssey?
To survive an Odyssey, you need to be able to handle anything that comes your way. The Odyssey can do just that!
The Odyssey will be a great shoe choice for…
Runners seeking stability who want maximal cushion and support paired with plush comfort and a responsive feel.
If you’re going on an odyssey, you’re going to want to get through it as quickly and as unscathed as possible. If you’re running in the Air Zoom Odyssey, you’re going to get a kick of ultra-repsonsive Zoom Air everywhere you need it, and stride steadying Dynamic Support throughout. So grab a pair and hold on tight- it’ll be over before you know it. And probably before you expect it.
