On Running is a Swiss-based company that is turning out some of the most innovative, award-winning running shoe technologies and designs we’ve seen at Potomac River Running. Taking the running world by storm, (OK, pun intended!) the On Cloud® and On Cloudster® are now available at our =PR= DC location at 919 F Street.
It simply wouldn’t be a proper welcome without providing a chance for you to try these incredibly comfortable and responsive shoes, so our friends from On Running will be in-store Wednesday, March 25 with test shoes for our weekly 6:30 p.m. all-comers fun run at =PR= DC.
What makes this buzzed about brand such a serious contender for training and racing? We interviewed On Running’s Max Smith about the universally popular Cloud and the newly-launched Cloudster to find out more.
Let’s begin by taking a closer look at the Cloud, the model that launched in 2014 to enthusiastic acclaim from the running, triathlon and cross-training communities.
“What I love about the Cloud beyond its absolute comfort, is its versatility. I personally love to run a couple of miles to my gym, do some cross training, and cool down with a jog back home. The Cloud supports my entire workout. The Cloud is definitely a lightweight, performance trainer with superior cushioning, but it’s also an easy-to-fit shoe with a fashion forward look,” notes Max Smith.
At a pillow-like 5.9 ounces for the Women’s model and 7.0 ounces for the Men’s model, the Cloud certainly lives up to its name. A 6mm heel to toe offset is created from patented On Running technology: the slim and responsive Speedboard Flexplate that promotes an efficient gait sits atop “Cloud-Pods” and a zero-gravity CloudTec® foam sole. An easy-entry lacing system that adapts to your foot shape and a supportive band that cradles your heel rounds out the Cloud.
The result? “The Cloud provides a soft, cushioned and impact-absorbing landing followed by the sensation of immediate forward momentum. Absolutely nothing is wasted. The shoe delivers an explosive takeoff that’s fun to experience,” adds Smith.
The Cloudster is the newest addition to the On Running family, with several features that make it a top choice for those who crave foot comfort. It’s suitable for a wide range of runners and fulfills the role of your everyday training shoe.
The Cloudster’s colorful upper sports On Running’s 4-Way Stretch material for an adaptive fit and feel. This upper material adaptation is apparent in all dimensions, allowing your toes to splay out naturally providing more inherent stability. It’s built to handle your daily training miles, utilizing more pronounced CloudTec® “cloud pods” on the sole of the shoe. The Cloudster has a 7mm heel to toe offset and weighs 9.5 ounces (women’s), and 10.9 ounces (men’s).
“Cloudster is especially accommodating for anyone dealing with a bunion. The 4-way stretch material in the upper is going to give runners the feel of a “custom” fit. And in terms of style, our design team was actually inspired by the MINI Cooper, using new color combinations and shapes that are all about having fun on the run,” Smith adds.
Don’t miss your chance to try the Cloud and Cloudster this week at =PR= DC, and watch for an update to the On Running story as we collect your thoughts and feedback on a shoe brand that may be just 4 years young, but is clearly here to stay.
