Chris Gellene, =PR= Staff Member
This month’s employee spotlight is =PR= team member Chris Gellene. Chris has been a member of the =PR= family since August, 2015. If you have ever had the chance to work with Chris you know just how AWESOME he truly is! Chris is an avid runner and has competed in numerous ultra marathons including the very first, Chris-created, =PR= 100 Miler.
Chris dreamed up this “race” while working at the shop and soon went from race director to race organizer to participant. He did the 100 miles start to finish with a smile on his face and in true =PR= fashion, ready to serve on the run. Don’t believe us… check out his race day attire, =PR= lanyard and all!
Chris completed the 100 miler, making a few pit stops at =PR= Reston and Vienna. He was also joined by a few special =PR= employee pacers along the way. Chris completed 100 miles with an average pace of 10:26 per mile, and a finishing time of 17:40.46. We are so proud of you Chris, you crushed it!

What’s some advice you have for runners interested in trying an ultra marathon or going further than they have before?
Proceed reasonably. One step at a time. I ran eight 50 milers before ever running my first 100 miler.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen at an ultra marathon?
The craziest thing I’ve seen was in a 100 miler I ran several years ago. The weather was cold, snowy, and icy, and a man was running in sandals!
