At Potomac River Running, we believe one of the greatest gifts you can give to a child is your love for being active and living a healthy, balanced life. Some of the best ways to teach the benefits of being active to your child include giving them opportunities to be outside, challenge themselves, and walking or running as a family.
If your goal is to reduce the “screen time” your children are putting in, then it’s time to get out there and get active with them! Being a running family keeps everyone fit and creates an environment of support which definitely carries over into other aspects of our lives. It allows us to spend precious time together. And, let’s face it, it’s just plain fun!
We try to incorporate as many fun runs, kids’ runs, and parent-child running opportunities into our race calendar as possible. A few of these races are just around the corner, and will help you jump start your 2014 season of activity. The Mighty Mile is an all-new 3-race series we’ve created this year to give youngsters ages 6-14 the chance to finish a mile, challenge themselves, race friends, and encourage one another. The first race in the series is March 29 at Reston Town Center, with races on June 29 (Fairfax Corner) and September 7 (Villages at Leesburg) to follow. Races begin at 8:00am.
Next Saturday, March 22, why not consider bringing the family out and running or walking for a great cause? Our Run for Haiti 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run will help a mother, a child, a family in Haiti live a better life. Run our 5K race or the 1-mile Fun Run and you’re providing monetary aid to Project Haiti and GHATES (Global Haitian Advancement through Education and Sports.)
Our Run for Haiti start and finish line is at the South Lakes High School Track in Reston. The fun begins at 9am with the 5K, and the 1-mile family-friendly fun run kicks off at 9:50am. Even better, our 5K and 1-Mile Fun Runs are stroller-friendly, so everyone can take part!
One of the many benefits of racing with us is the free high resolution photos you can download from the Potomac River Running Flickr page after every race. Register your child for The Mighty Mile or the Run for Haiti today, and be sure to strike a pose with the family at the finish line!
