In February 2018, Nike introduced its brand-new cushion technology React with the release of the Epic React Flyknit. It took the sneaker world by storm. This was Nike’s response to a lightweight shoe with a full midsole cushion technology that was durable but kept the weight low. It answered the question if a shoe could be light, soft, and responsive in one package. The answer was, and still is, yes.
The Epic React Flyknit 2 does not deviate away from what was so popular about the original product. It still uses Nike’s Flyknit upper that conforms to your foot with a minimal, supportive design. The full midsole React cushion checks all the marks from lightweight, soft, responsive, and durable. A new molded heel gives a more secure stable feel versus the original. The outsole remains as it was: clear rubber in the heel and toe for durability and traction, but the midfoot area is exposed React to keep weight low. While it may show initial wear, it does not take away from the overall durability
The Odyssey React was the next Nike model from the React line that followed the Epic boom. Still using the React cushion compound, there were key differences from the Epic React. In this recently released Nike Odyssey React Flyknit 2, the forefoot now features a Flyknit upper, versus the Flymesh that was originally used, to provide support where you need it. The midfoot is comprised of a synthetic material with a tongue. This does provide more give when putting the shoe on. The Odyssey React outsole visibly has more coverage with strategically placed rubber for better protection.
Whether it’s distance training or getting around town, these are shoes that are sure to feel great and look great, while keeping the weight low. Both the Nike Epic React Flyknit 2 and Odyssey React Flyknit 2 are available at all Potomac River Running locations and online, while supplies last.
