Telaya Dennis: =PR= Walker and Special Education Teacher at Lightridge High School
This month’s customer spotlight is special education teacher and new to the walking scene, Telaya Dennis or as her students like to refer to her, Mrs. Dennis! Telaya’s walking journey is recent but she is already making steps forward for a lifetime! Telaya started seriously logging miles this spring when the pandemic started and she hasn’t stopped since. Each morning, she wakes up earlier before the heat hits and logs her miles throughout her neighborhood. She keeps herself accountable with Team Thrive. Team Thrive is something she started with her husband and bishop. They started logging miles and sending one another video messages at the start and finish of their walks. They send the videos daily to keep one another motivated and accountable! The =PR= Family is motivated by Mrs. Dennis’s story and looks forward to hearing more about her miles walked down the road! Keep up the solid work! Learn more about Telaya’s story below.

Favorite Place to Walk: I like to walk through my neighborhood and always prefer to walk outside in the sunshine!
Three Words to Describe Your First Few Miles Logged: Wow!, “We Made it!”
Your =PR= Story:
I was given a pair of new shoes from Potomac River Running as a part of the Local Heroes Shoe Donation that =PR= sponsored at the start of the pandemic. I was lucky to be able to receive a pair of On Running Shoes from =PR=. Once I got my shoes that was step one, my step two was more of having accountability and knowing that people such as my husband and bishop were also walking with me and checking in on our walks! We start each morning with a video message to one another to go out the door and finish each walk with a recap to one another. Knowing that there is someone counting on me and checking up on one another is very helpful and keeps me motivated to keep going! And of course it feels good to have great shoes while I walk.
Favorite walking route? I enjoy walks that end at a special destination. Knowing I am walking to get somewhere that is fun keeps me wanting to get there faster! Some of my favorite destinations are a friend’s house, different shopping centers, or the outlet malls!
Favorite walking buddy? My husband Marq.
What is your favorite thing about walking? I feel great after a walk and the more I do it the more I want to keep going. It also makes me feel healthy.
Who is your biggest cheerleader or supporter? My Bishop, Team Thrive. Team Thrive includes myself, my husband, our bishop, and a few other community members. We created Team Thrive when we all started to walk each morning.
What is your spirit animal? Why? A turtle, slow and steady wins the race!
What is your life’s motto? Words to live by? Be loving and kind to others and also to yourself.
Best advice you can give to others just getting started: Take your time, walking one minute is better than not walking at all.
