The Rundown with Kimberly & Kathleen

This month’s customer spotlight is the Mother/Daughter Duo Kathleen and Kimberly Estabrook. Kathleen and Kimberly share a love of running and all things Disney which makes for a perfect combination when you can enjoy races while enjoying the views of the Park. Kimberly (daughter) first started running and soon after, Kathleen joined in on the fun and the rest is history. Both Kathleen and Kimberly can be found on any given weekend running a race, either one of our many =PR= Races, a Disney Race, or a local community race. Read on to learn more about this magical mother/daughter duo and their Disney running adventures!

Kimberly: Birthday Bash 5K and Dulles Day 10K

Kimberly: Turkey Trot 5k in 2012

Kathleen: Princess 5k in 2013

Favorite Race Memory: 

Kimberly: Running in the French countryside during the Disneyland Paris Half Marathon and taking in all the beautiful sites.

Kathleen: Running through the Castle at Walt Disney World during my first half marathon at Princess 2014.

How did you get started running?

Kimberly: I found out about runDisney through a friend in college, and that led me to sign up for my first half, the Princess Half Marathon, in 2013 and running my first full in 2014, and the rest is history.

Kathleen: I started running 6 years ago, at the age of 60. My daughter got me interested and we ran races with runDisney at Walt Disney World.

Favorite Running Event/Distance?

Kimberly: Walt Disney World Marathon

Kathleen: Walt Disney World Marathon

What is your favorite part about running and or racing?

Kimberly: The feeling of accomplishment when you finish a race and discovering how supportive the running community is! 

Kathleen: Getting out there and getting exercise. Completing the run or races.

Who is your biggest cheerleader/supporter?

Kimberly: My parents for always believing in me.

Kathleen: My daughter and my husband cheering at the races. Kim Griffin and her sister Melissa for cheering me during my first runDisney Dopey Challenge race 48.6 miles. They were so sweet and met my daughter and me at several spots on the bike trail. They surprised us with balloons at the end!

What is your Spirit Animal? Why?

Kimberly: Giraffes because they are tall and elegant.

Kathleen: Deer. I love them. My last PR race in person was the Ten Miler on March 8, 2020 and while running I had 3 deer jump out in front of me to cross the street. I was scared but also very excited to see them on the course.

What is your life’s motto? Words to live by?

Kimberly: One step at a time and If you don’t try, you’ll never know. I’ve had Lyme disease since 2015, and some days I don’t have a lot of energy. However, I feel better if I get outside for at least a walk.

Kathleen: Always try my best

3 Fun Facts About Kimberly 

1) Did 3 Virtual Marathons in 2020: Big Sur Marathon, Marine Corps Marathon and Walt Disney World Marathon.

2) I have walked a mile a day since June 2018

3) I have a Youtube channel Belle898 to document my running journey. I have fun videos like our Virtual Dopey Challenge, training, and Disney videos.

3 Fun Facts About Kathleen 

1) I like to treat myself to Starbucks or Duck Donuts after a race. 

2) I look forward to receiving the medal for my collection. 

3) I like dressing up in a themed costume for races.

– Knee Strap for my left knee

– Sport Beans

– Momentum Jewelry and Raw Threads Top

Kathleen’s top 3 things to have for a race or run: (must have items)

– Fanny belt to hold my phone, keys, Sport Jelly Beans, Etc.

– The right shoes!

– A race shirt. 

Your last run/walk was:

Kimberly: Running a mile last week and surprising myself with the time. I got a Peloton in September 2020, and have noticed that has helped to strengthen my legs for running.

Kathleen: Walked 5 miles total and stopped for coffee yesterday.

Your last race was:

Kimberly: Virtual Princess Half Marathon

Kathleen: Virtual Princess Half Marathon 

What advice would you have for new runner or walker?

Kimberly: Show up and give it a try! The running community is so welcoming.

Kathleen: Get out there and try your best, walk/run method, have fun.

Share a favorite memory from race you both completed:

Kimberly: I have two: Running the 2019 Walt Disney World Marathon with my mom and seeing my mom finish her first marathon. The other is running the Virtual Dopey Challenge with her, and being proud of her for all the hard work she put into training. 

Kathleen: Coming into the finish line of the 2019 Walt Disney World Marathon. My daughter encouraged me that I could run a marathon, so I did! Tears of joy were streaming down my face as I completed. I had hit the wall at mile 21 but was determined to continue and finish the race.
