This month we feature Marques Berry. Prior to March 2020, Marques could be spotted at almost every one of our =PR= Races or a local marathon in the area. Although we don’t see him as often with live races being put on pause, he continues to log miles and run a number of our =PR= virtual races. We are looking forward to getting back to live events and welcome back a number of our loyal runners like Marques Berry. Read about Marques’ story in this month’s =PR= Family Spotlight.

How did you get started running? For me running first started out as somewhat of a treadmill addiction in high school (challenging & surprising myself at how long/fast I could run), which then resulted in me trying cross country, and ultimately, before I knew it, running became more or less a personality trait.
Favorite Running Event/Distance? Marathon & Half Marathon – I also like 10 milers
What is your favorite part about running and or racing? I love the discipline/self-improvement aspect of running; it’s become a keystone habit that has helped improve my life in other areas. Regarding races, I really enjoy the energy at live events, it’s great to experience all the participants and supporters cheering along; running with people of all ages and backgrounds, pursuing a common goal gives me a great sense of enjoyment every time as well.
Who is your biggest cheerleader/supporter? Honestly, myself lol
What is your Spirit Animal? Why? Lion – because they’re fearless and always hungry

What advice would you have for new runners? Set your own personal goals and start small so you can remain consistent. Proper stretching and warming up/cooling down is very important. I encourage new runners to get a gait analysis at their local running store. This will help ensure they are running in the proper shoes to fit their pronation (foot movement). Having a running partner or training group is also a great resource to help with accountability while also adding fun to your run.
