Long time track coach and massage therapist Peter Sherry is no stranger to the Northern VA running scene. He has coached a number of local area runners and has kept a number of runners, walkers, and athletes healthy by proving his services. Peter is also a well accomplished runner competing in the Olympic Trials twice and winner of the Marine Corps Marathon. First Race: My first race was a hometown 10K in 1984.
Favorite Race Memory: Winning Marine Corps Marathon and competing in the Olympic Trials twice.
Favorite Running Event/Distance? Any tough cross country race course.
What is your favorite part about running and/or racing? The simplicity and fairness of running, it doesn’t discriminate.
Who is your biggest cheerleader/supporter? Wife, college coach, and the high school kids I have coached over the years.
What is your Spirit Animal? Why? I have no idea what a spirit animal is but a golden retriever is always a good answer.
What is your life’s motto? Words to live by? Don’t worry I’ll figure it out.

- I am a left handed ginger which puts me in a small % of the population.
- I own every Van Morrison album.
- I was at the 1977 World Series game where Reggie Jackson hit 3 HR’s and still have the ticket stub.
Top 3 things to have for a race or run: (Must Have Items): Different take… I never carry water, I never listen to music, I only run on dirt trails, I often don’t wear socks or a watch, and I always wear a shirt!
Your last run/walk was: a couple months ago, I have been cycling more this summer!
Your last race was: a mountain bike race. The last running race was one of the EX2 trail races.
Favorite Place to Run: Great Falls Park
What advice would you have for a new runner or walker? Get fit properly for shoes and ignore time and pace, run how you feel.
If I wasn’t running or walking I would be . . . Riding a bike or coaching softball.
My favorite post-run, walk, or race meal is . . . any kind of fruit.
Tell us a little more . . . I stopped coaching high school track 5 years ago and now am an assistant coach for the Great Falls Sharks and Langley Varsity Softball teams. I have plenty of stories about co-owner Ray Pugsley and Marketing and Online Manager Lauren ( a former athlete). I currently own a massage therapy clinic in Reston. My wife and I have 3 daughters and an Australian Shepherd puppy.
